Bay Crossings is the ferry ticket shop and ferry and tour information center. It also sells nowhere-else-to-be found post cards and greeting cards featuring the Ferry Building, helpful maps and guides, and special edition books. It is easy to find when coming in the central entrance to the Ferry Building off the Embarcadero—located to the immediate right just inside the building on the central corridor. Bay Crossings also publishes a monthly newspaper by the same name that covers maritime, cultural, environmental and commuter issues and, moreover, celebrates the new urban waterfront lifestyle. Bay Crossings is a privately owned company that was created to meet the needs of ferry commuters and tourists. While riders of the Golden Gate Ferry from Larkspur and Sausalito do have their own terminal, commuters from Vallejo, Alameda, Oakland and Tiburon, as well as tourists wanting to get on the Bay, did not have a terminal. In a few years, the state’s Water Transit Authority intends to establish one—and in the meantime Bay Crossings fills an important need. |
